Lidia Torrigi was originally cast as Micaëla but had to be substituted owing to illness. She performed at the third performance and probably the three that followed.
Loewenberg’s Annals of Opera gives the premiere date as 23 May. This is not correct.
At São Paulo the Maurice Gray company gave only 1 performance of each work in their repertory. It went on to give Carmen in Buenos Aires and Montevideo, and in 1882 in New York and Montreal.
